7 Perfect Xbox Games to Gift Your Children this Christmas

Believe it or not, there are plenty of child-friendly games available on the Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X for the young ones who are old enough to understand slightly complicated storylines but too young for the more mature and gory stuff. Mind you, we’re not just talking about Minecraft and LEGO, among others. The gaming market is full of video games that are perfect for entertaining the growing minds of young people without making them feel like you don’t trust them enough.

With that said, we’ve decided to round up 7 perfect Xbox games to gift your children this Christmas.

Don’t worry, we stayed away as much as we can from the same content that you wouldn’t want them to be watching, reading, or listening to, so you can rest easy knowing that these choices were heavily curated.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

We know. We just said “more than LEGO” but hear us out first: LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is an improved version of one of the best video games of its generation. It’s an amazing bundle that adapts the nine most iconic sci-fi movies in history. The best part is that Star Wars is for everyone and so is LEGO.

The only reason not to give your little padawan a copy of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga this Christmas is if they already have a copy.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood

Kids will be kids. They’ll say and do things they don’t mean without any intent to hurt or malice. It’s part of the growing process. But, at the same time, it’s important for us parents to teach them to be accountable for their words and actions. You know, like the time they wished their (most likely) annoying sibling to be gone.

This is the exact premise of Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, where the eponymous hero wishes his brother, Felix, to disappear and that’s exactly what happens. Instead of rejoicing, Max realizes that it’s scary to lose someone so close to him. It also doesn’t hurt that Max: The Curse of Brotherhood offers an interesting blend of puzzles and platforming, which makes it the perfect game to entertain your kids and teach them to listen.

Super Mega Baseball 3

The old adage goes, “monkey see, monkey do”. So, if you love playing MLB The Show, don’t be surprised if your kid wants in on the fun as well. Unfortunately, the latest MLB The Show game can be too complicated for their simpler minds to understand. This is where Super Mega Baseball 3 comes in.

Make no mistake. Super Mega Baseball 3 might look like a children’s game and it very much is, but it’s surprisingly realistic. You could say it’s a simplified version of MLB The Show 22 with more intuitive controls.

If nothing else, Super Mega Baseball 3 is the best way to prepare your child for more complicated sports sims like MLB The Show.

Forza Horizon 5

The Forza Horizon games are widely considered one of the best racing sims because it doesn’t try to be one. Forza Horizon 5, in particular, further refines the previously perfected formula by Playground Games. But, while it still poses a challenge for adults, it’s not too concerned about trying to turn you into a gearhead. Instead, Forza Horizon 5 does what the series does best and has you racing around the gorgeous landscapes surrounding a fictionalized open-world version of Mexico.

With experience points rewarded for just about everything, Forza Horizon 5 is an excellent starter racing sim for younger kids and tweens who want to try something more serious but not too overwhelming.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom

The only thing horrible about SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is its name. Everything else is, as Mr. Krabs likes to say all the time, “Money!”.

Speaking of Mr. Krabs, this remastered SpongeBob adventure will feature several familiar faces that your kids can probably name faster than you can such as Patrick, Sandy Cheeks, Mr. Krabs, and of course, SpongeBob. It’s a 3D platformer with a light story about stopping Plankton from doing whatever evil he plans to do.

But, hey, what are we doing trying to sell you and your child on this? It’s a SpongeBob game and an excellent platformer. This combination of words should be more than enough to convince you to spend on it.

Kerbal Space Program

What else does a child need more than an adorable character (the Kerbals), a fun vehicle (a rocketship), an interesting space (well, space), and somewhere to unleash their unbridled imagination?

Kerbal Space Program has three different modes to choose from: Science Mode for experimentation; Career Mode for learning how to run a space station, finances and all; and Sandbox Mode, where you can do everything you want.

Everything about Kerbal Space Program screams fun, much more so if you’ve got energy, time, and a boatload of creativity.

Tunic

Do you remember the times when you’d boot up your old NES or SNES and play your first Legend of Zelda game? Nothing quite compares, right? The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an excellent alternative for today’s kids on the Nintendo Switch. The problem is that it’s on the Nintendo Switch. Thankfully, the Xbox has Tunic.

Tunic isn’t afraid to wear its Legend of Zelda inspiration on its sleeve. It screams very much like the Legend of Zelda games from the 80s and 90s. The lead character even wears the same green tunic as well as red and blue shield that Link also has. But, while Tunic is a lot like the Legend of Zelda games of old, it’s still very much its own game.

If nothing else, Tunic is a great way to get your kids into action-adventure games.

An X-Box Christmas

With the plethora of video games on the market today, it can feel overwhelming to have to choose just one or a couple for your kids. Lucky for you, our list will help narrow down your choices to 7.

If you’d like your child to enjoy some quality gaming time at home and maybe with you, these games are a good place to start.
