Widodo, who succeeded Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, announced that some of the priorities of Indonesia’s term will be building the ASEAN Community and improving this group´s capacity and operational efficiency.

Efforts will also be devoted to promoting this regional bloc’s relations with its partners, as well as promoting its role and position in the region and the world.

At the handover ceremony, Hun Sen praised the success of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and related events, which took place from November 10 to 13 in the capital city of Cambodia.

The Cambodian prime minister reiterated that the ASEAN has achieved many things, but warned that it still faces many challenges due to the persistence of the Covid-19 pandemic and the prevailing crisis situation in Myanmar.

According to press reports, in these past days of high-level meetings, the ASEAN approved and took note of 70 documents and declarations covering the three pillars of its community, as well as several cooperation frameworks adopted with different partners, among others.
