Laos govt warns people of scammers promising jobs in South Korea

The Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare of Laos recently issued an official notice, warning local labourers not to fall victim to sham companies who offer to assist them in illegally getting a job in South Korea.

The notice was issued after officials of the Ministry of Labour and Welfare noticed that some companies and individuals have been attempting to persuade Lao labourers to go work in South Korea without the ministry’s permission.

The government said that cooperating with such organizations might lead to people being tricked, taken advantage of, or worse, become victims of human trafficking.

According to the ministry, some scammers advertise job opportunities on social media offering lucrative pay to potential employees who are inclined to believe them. The government has urged people to look for work abroad legally instead of relying on dubious entities to earn a living.

Individuals from Vientiane Capital who want to work in South Korea have been asked to contact the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare before proceeding with a job opportunity.

People from other provinces have been asked to report to their local labour departments as well.

Last month, local police also apprehended fraudsters in Vientiane for posing as job recruiters and arranging fake visas for Lao people who wish to work in South Korea.
