The Lao and Vietnamese border guards have vowed to jointly crack down on smuggling, trade fraud, drug trafficking, illegal weapons and explosive material transactions along their shared border.
According to the Lao People’s Army News report on Thursday, Director General of the Lao Border Military Department Siphan Phoutthavong met with Commander of the Vietnam Border Guard Force Le Duc Thai in Laos’ Luang Prabang province on Tuesday, and they agreed to step up efforts to combat human trafficking, cyber fraud, cross-border gambling and terrorist attacks.
In addition, the border guard forces will coordinate to tackle sabotage attempts, illegal immigration, unauthorized residence and illegal labor.
The two sides agreed to strengthen border management and protection, conduct mutual patrols to detect activities intended to damage border markers, and monitor criminal activities.
They also pledged to maintain regular and ad-hoc exchanges of information related to border management and protection, as well as incidents occurring along the border.
