Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked Samsung Electronics Vietnam to hire more Vietnamese as executives and managers.

The PM made the proposal during his recent meeting at the company’s plant in the northern province of Bac Ninh, according to the Vietnam Government Portal.

He said that much like Samsung, Vietnam wants to focus on technology and innovation with human resources being the at the center of growth strategies.

PM Chinh has met with Samsung leaders on five separate occasions in over two years.

Samsung is the biggest foreign investor in Vietnam, with a total registered capital of nearly $20 billion to date.

Half of its smartphones are made in Vietnam, where it employs around 100,000 workers.

Last year the company exported $65 billion worth of products, accounting for 17.5% of Vietnam’s total exports.

Fifty-one Vietnamese companies now work as direct suppliers for the South Korean company.
