Gojek has appointed Sumit Rathor as its new general manager in Vietnam – its fourth appointment for the same post after operating in the country for only four years.
Rathor succeeds Phung Duc, who co-founded Gojek Vietnam and served as its CEO since 2020. The company said Phung has chosen to seek new professional challenges.
According to a press statement, Rathor joined Gojek in 2019 as regional head of Gojek Indonesia. He then moved to Vietnam in 2022 to lead the local unit’s merchant, marketing, and strategy functions.
While in Indonesia, Rathor was credited with strengthening Gojek’s market share and leading the recovery of the business during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Gojek said it now has 200,000 drivers and tens of thousands of food merchants in Vietnam, where it was rebranded from GoViet to Gojek in August 2020.
Regarding food delivery, the latest report from Momentum Works revealed that Gojek only has a 2% market share in Vietnam, trailing far behind rivals GrabFood and ShopeeFood.
