The construction of Mang Den Airport in Kon Tum Province will require VND4.9 trillion (US$193.3 million), mostly funded by private investors through a public-private partnership. The Ministry of Transport has submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister for consideration.
The state will contribute VND327 billion ($12.9 million) for site clearance, while private investors will cover the rest. Investors are expected to recover their capital within 48 years.
The airport will be located 60 kilometers from Kon Tum City and 4 kilometers from Mang Den Town, with careful planning to avoid interfering with nearby airports like Pleiku and Chu Lai.
Built on a 350-hectare site, the airport aims to serve nearly one million passengers annually by 2030. However, low air travel demand is currently due to the province’s small population and limited economy.
The development of the Mang Den tourist area, expected to attract millions of visitors, is projected to boost air travel demand. The area could welcome two million tourists by 2030 and five million by 2045.
